I have today played at the Oxfordshire Belfry. What an awesome course. The course is designed like an inland links course.
Today the wind was blowing and the rain was sheeting down at times. It made for a thoroughly 'enjoyable' game of golf. There
are a number of water hazards on the course and the long rough swallows balls for fun if you are not straight off the tee.
This is definately not a course for the novice golfer. With regards to the greens they were lightening fast even though we
had had plenty of rain over the last few days (or should I say weeks - where is the summer?)
My favourite hole was the 17th where if you are brave off the tee you can position the ball close to the lake from where
with a straight second shot you can ping your ball across the lake onto the green for two. The alternative is a long
route around the lake and on the green for four if you are lucky.
There is a fantastic half way house after the fifth hole and after the twelfth hole. This half way house was a truly
welcome site. The tea and sausage sandwiches were very welcome given the weather. The hospitality at the course is first
class and the facilities are all you would expect from such a prestigious golf club.
Anyway I can heartily recommend you pay a visit to this course as you will have a fantastic challenge on an excellent
golf course.
